CBD: Good For Dogs!

Hemp Oil For Dogs

CBD. In the news, in products for skin, in drinks, in supplements, and in every store down to your local Dollar General. But is it trendy or is it a THING? We believe it’s a THING. Potentially a game-changer for unique concerns that dogs have throughout their lives such as anxiety, high energy/lack of focus, and hip/joint/age related pain.

What is CBD? What Do All These Terms Mean?

CBD stands for cannabidiol, which is extracted from hemp. CBD does not contain any THC, which is the compound that accounts for the “high” commonly associated with marijuana, a sister plant to hemp. So don’t worry about your dog getting psychotropic side effects or overdosing! Also, CBD is legal in all states.

The CBD in our products comes from a very high-end Texas laboratory, where they extract via cold-pressing, in order to retain the broad spectrum of benefits. Plant ingredients come from Oregon and Colorado, where stringent quality control is in place, and final products are third-party tested for THC, potency, microbials, terpenes, heavy metals, and pesticides. This is important, because not all companies’ ingredients are the same, and not all companies test their products for potency, so you could be wasting your money! Regulations in this area are still very loose, so be careful in your shopping and comparisons.

Broad spectrum means that it contains multiple cannabinoids, making whole plant medicine more wide-ranging in its results on the body. This format of CBD contains the most beneficial effects, but all THC has been removed.

Terpenes are organic compounds produced by plants that are aroma generators, flavor generators, and help determine the wellness benefits of hemp extracts. You want terpenes!

How Can CBD Help My Dog?

CBD is known for being especially helpful with certain types of conditions. Luckily for us, these are some of the most common issues we see in dogs, making CBD immensely beneficial for our canine friends.

Hyperactivity/Lack of Focus–Young dogs are prone to bursts of energy and lack of focus in training. While CBD doesn’t make up for lack of exercise or consistent, proper training time, it can assist with taking the edge off and getting the dog’s mind on the task at hand.

Anxiety/Stress–Whether it is a fireworks situation once a year, storms, or anxiety about vet visits or travel, CBD can help dogs get through life’s stressful moments. Sometimes we all need just a little bit of help to stay in our comfort zone without overreacting.

Hip/Joint/Age Pain–Older or arthritic dogs (and people!) can benefit from CBDs pain management attributes. Unlike other pain killer drugs, CBD is a natural product and is less harsh to other functions of the body, so can be used longer term without hurting kidneys or liver function like some medications can.

Muenster Milling CBD Products

Here at Muenster, we don’t sell products until we are sure our own beloved dogs have benefited from them. We are proud to only use ingredients from companies that we trust, and that includes our CBD offerings. We have CBD in a couple of different products.

Our functional toppers are developed by a veterinarian, and the Dr Verwers Calming, and Hip and Joint supplements not only taste great and add protein, they have specific ingredients to address these concerns. The Dr Verwers Calming Supplement contains CBD and Valerian Root along with freeze-dried beef collagen and liver. The Dr Verwers Hip and Joint Supplement has CBD along with chondroitin, glucosamine and vitamin E to fight musculoskeletal discomfort.

We also offer a CBD oil which is great for acute dosage. The oil contains 500 mg of CBD per bottle, and is made from GMO free hemp, which is rich in cannabinoids, terpenes, amino acids and fatty acids. 100% natural and organic, the CBD oil is combined with coconut oil which adds beneficial medium chain triglycerides in an easy to dose format with dropper top.

CBD is an emerging medicinal therapeutic option for our dogs (and ourselves), and ongoing research is just beginning to uncover all the benefits of this amazing plant. For instance, current studies at major universities are working on cancer and seizure studies. Hemp has been used for hundreds of years for medicinal assistance, and CBD has been singled out since 1940, even before many mainstream pharmaceuticals were invented. While we don’t have all the answers just yet, we are committed to providing the most up to date and highest quality CBD products and information we can find, from trusted sources. Join us in using CBD to maximize your dog’s life!
